Discover Ses Salines Beach in Ibiza. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
Ses Salines Beach is a public beach, so it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can easily get there by car, with parking available (paid in high season), or by bus from Ibiza Town. The bus lines that take you there are L11 and L11B. You can check the latest timetables on the Ibiza Transport website: Ibiza bus timetables.
Access to Ses Salines Beach is completely free, as it is a public beach. However, parking may have a cost if you come by car during the high season.
The amount of time you spend will depend on your preferences. If you just want to swim and enjoy the sun, 2 to 3 hours is enough. But if you want to explore the area, walk along the coast, enjoy the beach bars, or try water sports, you could easily spend half a day or even the whole day. It’s a place to relax without rushing!
Absolutely! Ses Salines Beach is part of the Ses Salines Natural Park of Ibiza and Formentera, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its importance lies in its dune and juniper ecosystems and, above all, in Posidonia oceanica, a marine plant essential to Mediterranean biodiversity and the quality of its waters. In addition, it has historically been a key place for salt production, which is where its name comes from.
To avoid the biggest crowds, I recommend visiting Ses Salines outside July and August. If you come in high season, the ideal time is early in the morning (before 10:00 a.m.) or later in the afternoon to watch the sunset. May, June, September, and early October offer excellent weather with fewer people.
Ses Salines Beach has some wooden walkways that make access to the sand easier in certain sections, especially near the beach bars. However, it does not have specific adapted showers or toilets. For detailed information about accessibility on Ibiza’s beaches, you can consult the Tourist Office: Ibiza Tourist Office.
Very close to Ses Salines, you can visit the Torre de Ses Portes, an old defensive tower with beautiful views of Formentera. You can also explore the Ses Salines Natural Park itself, which offers hiking routes and birdwatching, including flamingos. And of course, Ibiza Town (Dalt Vila, the old town) is just a short drive away, with its rich culture and leisure options.
Of course — here are a few! Bring sunscreen and a hat, as the sun is strong. Consider renting a sunbed and umbrella if you plan to spend several hours there, since there is little natural shade. If you want to eat, the beach bars are excellent but somewhat expensive; you can bring your own food and drinks. And if you enjoy snorkeling, the crystal-clear waters and Posidonia offer an amazing underwater spectacle. Enjoy your visit!
