Donde las campanas fueron enterradas como botín de guerra y la Virgen guarda una sonrisa cómplice
The church is usually open throughout the day, but for cultural visits it is recommended to contact the Robledillo de Gata Town Hall (+34 927 14 60 01) or check the Sierra de Gata tourism portal. Many visitors enter during Mass times (generally at 11:00 on Sundays).
Admission is completely free. Although there is no fixed fee, voluntary donations are accepted for the upkeep of the church. If you would like a guided visit, some local operators offer tours at an additional cost.
We recommend setting aside 30 to 45 minutes to appreciate its architecture, altarpiece, and historical details. If you also plan to take photos and explore the village in detail, allow 1.5 to 2 hours in total.
Built in the 16th century, it stands out for its blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, with Mudéjar influences in its wooden roof. It is a Site of Cultural Interest that reflects the religious and architectural identity of Sierra de Gata.
Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) offer mild temperatures and green landscapes. In summer, visit early in the morning to avoid the heat. Avoid August if you prefer fewer crowds.
Access is difficult due to steps at the entrance and uneven ground. It is recommended to contact the Town Hall in advance for assistance. The village has cobbled streets and steep slopes.
Do not miss: 1) The village itself, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, with its overhanging houses. 2) The Water Route in Torre de Don Miguel. 3) Nearby natural swimming pools. More info: Extremadura Tourism.
Wear comfortable shoes for the cobbled streets, bring water in summer, and respect the silence during religious services. For extended tours, I recommend the Sierra Visitors Program. Do not forget your camera!
