❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the visiting hours of the Church of San Francisco Javier?

The church is open from Tuesday to Sunday: from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00 (in winter it closes one hour earlier in the afternoon). It is closed on Mondays. From its twin towers you get the best panoramic views of the historic center. Check for updates at Cáceres Tourism.

Is it necessary to pay an entrance fee to visit the church?

General admission costs €2.50 and includes access to the church, cloister and ascent to the towers. Children under 12 enter free. The first Sunday of each month, the visit is free. Hours and prices are subject to change.

How much time is recommended for the visit?

It is recommended to set aside between 30 and 45 minutes to fully enjoy the space: 15 minutes for the Baroque interior of the church, 10 minutes for the cloister and another 15 minutes to climb the towers and take in the views.

What historical importance does this church have?

Built in the 18th century as part of the Jesuit complex, it stands out for its twin towers ('Las Difrailes') which are an icon of the Cáceres skyline. Its simple Baroque style contrasts with the rest of the medieval buildings of the monumental complex.

What is the best time of day to visit?

We recommend the early morning hours (10:00-11:30) to avoid crowds, or sunset if you climb the towers to enjoy the golden light over the monumental city. In summer, avoid the central hours of the day.

Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility?

The main nave has adapted access, but the climb to the towers (a spiral staircase of 60 steps) and part of the cloister are not accessible. It is recommended to consult the staff about alternative routes (+34 927 010 834).

What other tourist sites are near the church?

Within a 5-minute walk you will find: the Co-Cathedral of Santa María (300m), the Palacio de las Veletas (Cáceres Museum, 400m) and the Arco de la Estrella. All within the walled enclosure declared a World Heritage Site.

What tips would you give to better enjoy the visit?

1) Wear comfortable shoes - the ground is uneven. 2) Don't forget your camera: the towers offer unique views. 3) Combine your visit with the Baluarte de los Pozos Interpretation Center (100m away). 4) Respect the silence during religious services.
