This architectural complex is one of the finest groups of Catalan Romanesque architecture, made up of three churches from different periods built one over another: Saint Peter (10th century), Saint Michael (12th century), and Saint Mary (12th century). It houses an outstanding collection of 12th-century Romanesque wall paintings and is a major historical landmark of art and religion in Catalonia.
The best time to visit is in spring or autumn, when the weather is pleasant and there are fewer crowds than in summer. Afternoon visiting hours also tend to be quieter than the morning. If you visit Terrassa in September, you may coincide with the Saint Tecla Festival, although it can be busier.
Access to the different churches presents some difficulties due to the historic architecture and changes in level, although efforts have been made to improve accessibility. It is advisable to contact the site directly by phone at 937 894 493 or by email to confirm the specific facilities available for your needs.
Very close by is the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC), housed in a former Modernist factory. You can also stroll through Terrassa’s historic center, Raval Square, or visit Vallparadís Park, a large landscaped urban park that runs through the city.
Visit the complex wearing comfortable shoes, as there are steps and uneven floors. Bring water, especially in summer, although there are rest areas inside the site. Do not hesitate to ask for information at reception; the staff are usually very knowledgeable and can share fascinating details about the Romanesque paintings that you might miss just by reading the signs.
