Imagina un templo romano de hace 2000 años escondido bajo un cine... ¿Listo para desenterrar sus secretos?
The Roman Temple of Olot is located in Parc Nou, and although the archaeological site itself is free to access, the interior of the Interpretation Center (located in the former Mission House) has specific opening hours, generally from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is in the center of Olot, just a few minutes’ walk from Sant Pere Square. To check for any schedule changes, I recommend visiting the official Olot Cultura website.
Visiting the exterior and the park surrounding the Roman Temple is completely free. If you are interested in seeing the exhibitions at the Roman Temple Interpretation Center, admission is very affordable, generally costing €3 (standard rate). Reduced tickets (€1.50) and free admission are available for children under 12, unemployed visitors, and student groups.
For a complete visit, we recommend allowing between 30 and 45 minutes. This gives you enough time to explore the archaeological remains, visit the permanent exhibition on the city’s Roman history, and see the reconstruction model. It is a short but very rewarding visit, especially if you use our audio guide.
This archaeological site is the most important surviving trace of the ancient Roman city of the Ausetani that once occupied the area. It is an Ionic-style Roman temple that remained in use for more than three centuries, from the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD, and its structure reflects the religious and urban importance of the region in Antiquity.
The best time to visit is in the morning, right when it opens, or at sunset, when the natural light highlights the volcanic stone of the temple remains. As for the time of year, spring and autumn are ideal for walking through Parc Nou. If you visit Olot in summer, make the most of it by combining your visit with the Saint Luke Fair (October 17) to experience the city at its very best.
Yes, access to the site from the street is accessible. The Interpretation Center building also has an elevator and adapted restrooms to make the visit easier for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility. The surrounding park has paved paths for comfortable movement.
The temple is located within Parc Nou, a beautiful green space for a walk. If you head a few minutes toward the historic center, you will find the Basilica of Saint Stephen and the iconic Solterra and Pujada Houses. In addition, Olot is the gateway to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone, ideal for visiting La Fageda d’en Jordà or the volcanic cones of Croscat and Santa Margarida.
I recommend booking your ticket in advance if you plan to visit the interpretation center as part of a group, as capacity is limited. Do not forget to ask for the audio guide at the ticket desk to better understand what you are seeing; it is the best way to connect with the history. And of course, take the opportunity to visit the museum shop, where you will find replicas of Roman pottery and books on local history.
