Discover the Monastery of El Parral in Segovia. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
The monastery is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 18:30, and on Sundays only in the morning. It is closed on Mondays and during religious services. We recommend confirming opening hours on its official website: monasteriodelparral.com
Admission is free, although voluntary donations for the monastery's upkeep are appreciated (usual suggestion: €2–3 per person). No advance booking is required for individual visits.
A full visit takes about 30–45 minutes. It includes the main cloister, the Gothic church with its impressive altarpiece, and the gardens overlooking the Eresma Valley.
Founded in 1447 by Henry IV, it is one of the finest examples of Late Gothic architecture in Spain and remains active as a monastery of Hieronymite friars. It stands out for its blend of Gothic, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles.
Spring and autumn are ideal because of the mild weather and the colors of the gardens. Avoid very hot summer days, as there is no air conditioning. Mornings are less crowded than afternoons.
It has partial accessibility: the ground floor is accessible, but there are steps in the upper cloisters and uneven paths in the gardens. Contact them in advance at +34 921 43 12 98 to discuss specific needs.
A 15-minute walk away, you will find the Roman Aqueduct and the Alcázar of Segovia (World Heritage Site). Very close by are the Church of Vera Cruz and the Antonio Machado House-Museum. More info: turismodesegovia.com
Dress modestly (it is an active sacred place), wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestones, and keep quiet during services. Bring water in summer. Photos are not allowed inside the church during Mass (see times on the website).
