Discover Punta Entinas-Sabinar Nature Reserve in Roquetas de Mar. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
As an open protected natural area, access is free 24 hours a day, every day of the year, although it is recommended to visit during daylight hours. The main access from Roquetas de Mar is at the end of the Playa Serena development, or from the Almerimar access in El Ejido.
Visiting Punta Entinas-Sabinar Nature Reserve is completely free and does not require prior booking. You can enjoy its trails, dunes, and birdwatching points at no cost, making it a perfect plan for every budget.
For a full visit that includes walking the main trails and stopping to watch birds, we recommend allowing between 2 and 3 hours. If you only want a quick walk along the boardwalks near the beach, one hour could be enough to capture the essence of the landscape.
This is one of the best-preserved dune and salt marsh systems in the Mediterranean, essential for migratory birds such as flamingos and home to the savin junipers that give the place its name. Historically, it was also a strategic coastal watchpoint, as evidenced by the Tower of Cerrillos.
For birdwatching, spring and autumn are the best seasons because of migration; to avoid heat and mosquitoes, winter is ideal. The best time of day is undoubtedly sunrise or sunset, when the light over the salt flats is spectacular and wildlife is more active.
Accessibility is limited because most paths are compacted dirt or loose sand, which makes passage difficult for conventional wheelchairs. However, some initial and perimeter sections near the residential areas are flatter and easier to manage with assistance.
Very close by you will find the Santa Ana Castle and the Roquetas Lighthouse, which often host cultural exhibitions. You can also take the opportunity to visit the Sea Interpretation Center or enjoy the extensive beaches of the Roquetas residential area.
It is essential to bring mosquito repellent, especially at sunset and in summer, and enough water, since there are no fountains or shops inside the reserve. We also recommend bringing binoculars to observe wildlife and wearing closed, comfortable footwear for walking on sandy ground.
