The Anatolii Visitor Center is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (in winter) or from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (in summer). Entry to the Natural Area is free. You can get there by private car or by public transport to the city of Huelva, and from there to the entrance of the reserve. More information is available on the Regional Government of Andalusia website: Odiel Marshes Natural Area.
General access to the Odiel Marshes Natural Area is completely free. However, the visitor center offers guided activities or specific excursions that may have a cost. We recommend checking directly with them for prices and reservations at the Anatolii Visitor Center or by calling 959 50 90 14.
To fully enjoy the Odiel Marshes, we suggest setting aside at least 3 to 4 hours. This will allow you to walk some of its main trails, watch birds from the observation points, and visit the Anatolii Visitor Center for additional information. If you are a birdwatching enthusiast, you could easily spend the whole day there!
The Odiel Marshes are a wetland of international importance, recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Its main significance lies in being a stopover, breeding, and wintering site for thousands of migratory birds, including the iconic flamingo. Historically, it has also been important because of its connection to mining in the area and the influence of the tides.
The best time to visit is during spring and autumn, when the greatest number of migratory birds can be found in the area, offering an unforgettable natural spectacle. As for the best time of day, the early morning or late afternoon are ideal for birdwatching, when the birds are most active and the light is softer for photography.
Yes, the Anatolii Visitor Center and some of the main boardwalks and trails are adapted for people with reduced mobility. However, not all paths and observation points may be fully accessible. We recommend contacting the visitor center directly (telephone: 959 50 90 14) for detailed information about accessible routes at the time of your visit.
Near the Odiel Marshes, in Huelva and the surrounding area, there is plenty to discover. We recommend visiting the Rio Tinto Pier, the Reina Victoria Workers' Quarter, or Casa Colón in the city of Huelva. You can also visit the Columbian Sites, such as La Rábida, Moguer, and Palos de la Frontera, all of great historical importance. For a more coastal experience, the beaches of Punta Umbría are very close by.
Of course—here are some golden tips: bring binoculars for birdwatching, comfortable walking shoes, enough water, sun protection, and mosquito repellent, especially in summer. Be respectful of the natural environment, stay on marked trails, and keep quiet so as not to disturb the wildlife. Also make time to visit the Anatolii Visitor Center—it is a real mine of information! You can find more advice from the Regional Government of Andalusia here: Tips for visiting a protected area.
