Donde las piedras esconden quién ganó la guerra de los exploradores y un murciélago romántico dejó su huella eterna
The cave operates seasonally (generally from May to October), and guided tours usually take place at 10:00, 12:00, and 14:00. It is highly recommended to contact the Boljevac Tourist Organization in advance to confirm availability, as outside the high season they only open for groups with prior appointment.
The price is very affordable, around 300-400 RSD (Serbian dinars) per person, which is about 3 euros. They usually do not accept credit cards on site, so bring cash. For updated information on group rates, check the Serbia Travel website.
The standard guided tour covers about 700 meters of prepared pathway and lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. If you are passionate about geology and want to explore at a relaxed pace, set aside at least an hour and a half in total for getting there, parking, and enjoying the surroundings.
It is one of the longest caves in Serbia, with more than 6 kilometers of explored passages, and it is protected as a natural monument. Its importance lies in its impressive limestone formations in chambers such as the 'Concert Hall' and the 'Cyclops,' true masterpieces of nature sculpted over millennia.
Without a doubt, late spring or summer (June to September) is ideal. The access road is macadam (dirt and stone) and can become difficult in winter or after heavy rain; in addition, in summer you will appreciate the natural coolness inside the cave.
Unfortunately, it is not an accessible attraction. As it is a cave with minimal intervention to preserve its wild state, the terrain is uneven, damp, and has natural steps that make wheelchair access impossible.
Take advantage of the trip to visit the mystical Mount Rtanj, famous for its pyramidal shape and energy legends. You can also visit the source of the Crni Timok River in Pećura, a perfect place to relax after the cave.
The interior temperature is constant and cool (around 8°C to 10°C) all year round, so bring a jacket even in summer. It is also essential to wear closed, non-slip sports shoes, as the cave floor is usually wet and slippery.
