An imposing bridge connecting the banks of the Đetinja River, a symbol of resilience and renewal in Užice.
Liberty Bridge is open 24 hours a day, every day. It is an open-air pedestrian structure located in central Užice, next to the Đetinja River. You can easily reach it on foot from the city center or by public transport. For the exact location: View on Google Maps
The visit is completely free. As it is a historic monument in a public space, there are no ticket booths or access fees. You can cross it and take photos freely at any time.
We recommend between 30 minutes and 1 hour to fully enjoy it. This includes crossing the bridge, taking photographs, reading the information panels, and admiring the views of the Đetinja River canyon.
Built in just 42 days in 1941 by Yugoslav partisans, it was crucial for transport during World War II. Its rapid construction under bombardment made it a symbol of resistance. It was renamed "Liberty Bridge" after the war. More historical details: Užice Tourist Office
Spring and autumn offer the best temperatures and natural colors. Visit during the day for spectacular photographs of the rocky canyon, or at sunset for romantic views. Avoid days of heavy rain because the cobblestones may be slippery.
It is currently NOT wheelchair accessible due to steps at both ends and uneven cobblestones. People with reduced mobility will need assistance. There is better access from the north side (Partizanska Street).
Less than 10 minutes away on foot you will find: Stari Grad Fortress (14th century), the National Museum of Užice, the Đetinja Canyon, and St. Mark's Church. The historic center with traditional Balkan architecture is also very close. Route map: Visit Užice
