General access is free, but some activities such as kayak tours or guided hikes have fees (usually between $15-$30). Contact the visitor center for specific details on rates and reservations.
Set aside 2-3 hours to walk the main trails (such as the Pterocarpus Forest), go birdwatching, and visit the interpretation center. For a full experience with a water tour, you would need half a day.
It is one of the largest estuaries in Puerto Rico and has been a coastal research reserve since 1981. It is home to 36 endangered species and unique mangroves that are key for flood protection.
