Domes Beach is mainly known for its proximity to Puerto Rico's decommissioned BONUS nuclear reactor (Boiling Nuclear Superheater). Beyond its nuclear past, the beach has gained worldwide fame in the surfing community, hosting prestigious competitions such as the 1968 World Surfing Championship. For surf lovers, the best time to visit Domes Beach is during the winter months (October to April), when large waves are more frequent and conditions are ideal, attracting surfers from around the world. If you are looking for a quieter atmosphere and fewer crowds, the summer season (May to September) is perfect, although the waves are smaller. As for the best time of day, sunset is an unmissable spectacle, with stunning views of the sun setting over the ocean.

Accessibility at Domes Beach can be challenging. As a natural beach, it does not have special walkways or equipment for people with reduced mobility to reach the sand or the water. The main access is directly over the sand, which can make wheelchair movement difficult. There are no adapted facilities such as accessible restrooms at the beach. We recommend researching beaches with better accessibility in the Rincón area if this is a major concern.

Rincón is full of charm! Very close to Domes Beach, you can visit the Punta Higuero Lighthouse, an ideal place for whale watching in season and enjoying the views. There is also the Rincón Art Walk (on Thursday evenings in season), where you will find local art and music. If you are looking for more beaches, Steps Beach, part of the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, is excellent for snorkeling and diving.
