A green lung in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, combining nature, recreation, and a unique perspective on the island.
The park is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is located at Road 883, Km 1.3, Guaynabo. To get there from San Juan, take PR-22 toward Guaynabo and follow the signs. Check for updates on its official Facebook page.
Admission to La Marquesa Forest Park is completely free. Some special activities may have an additional cost, but general access for walking, picnicking, and enjoying nature is free.
We recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours to explore the main trails, picnic areas, and viewpoints. If you plan to have a full picnic or walk all the paths, you can extend your visit to half a day.
This park was once part of a 19th-century coffee estate called 'La Marquesa.' Today it preserves part of that historical legacy along with its biodiversity, making it one of the few urban forests in the metropolitan area.
From November to April, during the dry season, is ideal. Visit early in the morning (8–10 AM) to avoid intense heat and possible afternoon rain, which is typical in the wet season.
It has some accessible areas near the main entrance and picnic zones, but the natural trails have uneven terrain. It is recommended to contact the park at (787) 720-4040 for specific accessibility details.
Within 15 minutes you will find the Caparra Ruins (the first Spanish settlement in Puerto Rico) and the modern Plaza Guaynabo for dining. About 20 minutes away is the Puerto Rico Museum of Art in Santurce.
We recommend bringing water, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, and sun protection. On weekends, you can join free guided tours—arrive early to register.
