En esta finca de Lares se escondieron rifles para derrocar a España: ¿dónde estaban las armas que casi cambian la historia de Puerto Rico?
The estate and its bistro usually operate from Friday to Sunday, ideally from breakfast through the afternoon, although hours may vary by season. To get there without getting lost in the mountains, we recommend using this direct Google Maps link to the entrance in Pezuela Ward.
In general, access to the Bistro area and the main surroundings is free, since the cost is based on your food and coffee purchases. If you would like a specialized guided tour of the coffee plantation, we suggest checking prices and availability directly upon arrival or through their social media channels.
We recommend setting aside between 2 and 3 hours for your visit. This will give you enough time to enjoy the food at a relaxed pace, taste the house’s famous coffee, and take a peaceful walk to appreciate the views and the history of the place.
This site is historic because it was owned by Manuel Rojas and served as an organizing center for the Lares Uprising in 1868. You can read more about this crucial event in Puerto Rico’s history in this article about the Lares Uprising.
Mornings are the best time to enjoy the cool mountain weather and see the mist over the coffee plantation. If you are interested in seeing the trees full of red fruit, the harvest months (usually between October and December) offer the most spectacular scenery.
The main restaurant area and the terrace have facilities and are generally accessible. However, keep in mind that because this is a mountain farm, moving toward the cultivation areas or trails may be difficult or impossible in a wheelchair due to the uneven terrain.
Since you are in the area, it is a must to head down into town to visit the historic Plaza de la Revolución and try the exotic ice creams at El Grito Ice Cream Shop. Both places are a short drive from the estate.
The road to Lares has many curves, so drive carefully; wear light clothing and comfortable shoes (sneakers or boots) if you plan to walk near the coffee fields. And an expert tip: do not leave without buying a bag of Café Lealtad beans or ground coffee to take the aroma home with you.
