Clérigos Tower is an icon of Porto and a magnificent example of Baroque architecture, designed by Nicolau Nasoni in the 18th century. It was the tallest tower in Portugal for many years, and its construction marked a milestone in the city as part of Clérigos Church, which served the Brotherhood of Poor Clerics.

To avoid the biggest crowds and enjoy a calmer experience, I suggest visiting Clérigos Tower early in the morning, right when it opens, or late in the afternoon before closing. Sunset from the top offers spectacular views of the city, although it is usually a busier time.

Unfortunately, Clérigos Tower, as a historic building with many narrow steps leading to the top, is not accessible for people with reduced mobility or wheelchairs. The ground floor of the church and some museum areas may be accessible, but access to the tower itself is limited.

Clérigos Tower is located in the heart of Porto, very close to other points of interest. Just a short walk away you will find the famous Livraria Lello, Aliados Avenue, and São Bento Station with its impressive tile panels. You can also stroll to Bolhão Market or head down to Ribeira.

I recommend wearing comfortable shoes for climbing the tower's more than 200 steps. Bring a bottle of water, especially on hot days. If you are interested in photography, do not forget your camera — the panoramic views are incredible.
