The castle is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (until 4:30 PM in winter). Closed on Mondays. It is easily reached from Beja's historic center. Always check updated hours on the municipal website.
General admission costs €2. Children under 12 and Beja residents enter free. Retirees and students pay €1. No advance booking is required.
Between 1.5 and 2 hours. This includes time to climb the Keep Tower (37 meters), explore the walls, and see the exhibition "Echoes of Conquest" about its history.
It was a key defensive site since Roman times and was rebuilt by King Denis in the 13th century. Its keep is the tallest in Portugal and offers unique views over the Alentejo region!
Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-October) for the mild weather. The early morning hours are ideal. Avoid July-August because of extreme heat (>40°C).
Access is partially adapted. The Keep Tower has no elevator, but there is access to the esplanade and parade ground. More info at +351 284 311 960.
