An Inca women's enclosure of great historical and social importance within the Pachacamac complex.
Acllahuasi is located within the Pachacamac Archaeological Sanctuary. It is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; you can find more details on the official museum website.
The visit to Acllahuasi is included in the general Pachacamac ticket, which costs S/ 15.00 for adults and S/ 5.00 for students. You can buy your tickets at the site ticket office or check online sales on the Ministry of Culture platform.
To complete the entire archaeological circuit, including Acllahuasi, you will need between 2 and 3 hours on foot. Spend at least 20 minutes specifically at this building to admire its unique architecture.
It was the house of the Acllas, or Chosen Women, of the Inca Empire. It stands out as one of the few coastal constructions with polished stone in the imperial Cusco style and trapezoidal niches, symbolizing Inca power in the region.
I recommend going early in the morning, around 9:00 a.m., to avoid the intense midday sun and the strong afternoon winds. The winter months, from June to September, are cool but cloudy, ideal if you do not like extreme heat.
The terrain is desert-like and uneven, which makes wheelchair access difficult in the archaeological area. However, the Site Museum is accessible and they sometimes offer internal transport service; check availability at +51 1 3215606.
You are just steps away from other gems such as the Temple of the Sun and the Painted Temple. I also recommend visiting the Pachacamac Site Museum before entering the ruins to better understand the context.
Wear very comfortable shoes for walking on dirt paths, and bring a hat and water, since there are no points of sale inside the circuit. For an immersive experience, download our audio guide at IAudioguia.com and discover the secrets the stones do not tell.
