They were the ceremonial and political center of the Moche culture (AD 100-800). They stand out for their polychrome murals and pyramidal structure, where sacred rituals were held. They are part of the Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
The dry season (April to November) is ideal, with sunny days and no rain. The early morning hours or after 2:00 pm are best to avoid the intense midday heat.
Huaca of the Sun is not accessible due to its eroded structure, but Huaca of the Moon has ramps and elevated platforms for wheelchairs. The site museum is fully accessible.
