El Sendero Palmital es un camino peatonal inmersivo en la Reserva Natural Ybycuí, Paraguay, rodeado de un bosque denso de palmeras yatay, arroyos cristalinos y una biodiversidad vibrante que conecta historia y naturaleza.
The trail is inside Ybycuí National Park and is usually open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, although entry is typically allowed only until 3:00 or 4:00 PM. It is easily reached from the town of Ybycuí by a paved road that leads directly to the park entrance.
Yes. Since it is part of a National Park managed by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, there is an entrance fee that is usually around 20,000 guaraníes per person, plus a vehicle fee. It is important to bring cash, as the connection for digital payments is often unreliable in the area.
The Palm Grove Trail takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour at a relaxed pace, allowing you to enjoy the natural surroundings. We recommend setting aside at least 3 hours if you also plan to visit the nearby waterfalls within the park.
This trail crosses a dense area of wild palm trees, a protected species of the Atlantic Forest, and connects with the history of La Rosada, the first iron foundry in South America. It is a unique place where biodiversity blends with 19th-century historical ruins.
The best time is early in the morning, around 8:00 AM, to avoid the intense heat and increase your chances of spotting birds and local wildlife. The autumn and spring months are ideal for enjoying the hike without the extreme temperatures of the Paraguayan summer.
Due to the natural topography of the terrain, which includes uneven sections, roots, and dirt ground, the trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with very limited mobility. However, the picnic areas and the area near the museum are much easier to access and are flatter.
Within the same park, it is essential to visit Mina Waterfall and the La Rosada Historical Museum. If you have time and a suitable vehicle, the impressive Crystal Waterfall, one of the tallest in Paraguay, is also very close by.
It is essential to wear closed, comfortable walking shoes, bring insect repellent, and carry plenty of water, as there are no kiosks along the trails. Do not forget to download your audio guide before leaving the Wi-Fi area so you can enrich your walk with local stories.
