En Mariato, donde el Pacífico esconde tesoros que solo los locales conocemos, esta playa te robará el aliento con sus secretos susurrados por las olas.
Playa Reina is publicly accessible and open 24 hours a day. You can get there from the town of Mariato by vehicle (1 hour on a secondary road) or on foot (3 hours from Fortuna Forest Reserve). A 4x4 is recommended during the rainy season. More details at: Veraguas Tourism.
Access is completely free, as it is a public beach. You should only consider transportation costs and possibly a small voluntary contribution if you use informal parking managed by local residents.
Ideally 2 to 3 hours to enjoy the beach and surrounding area. If you combine it with turtle watching (nesting season) or hikes on nearby trails, allow for half a day.
It is one of the few mass nesting sites for sea turtles in Panama (olive ridley and hawksbill species). The area is ecologically important because it is protected from urban development within the Pacific Biological Corridor.
The dry season (December to April) offers the best road access. If you want to see turtles, visit between June and December (nighttime visits with local guides). The best times for photos are early morning or sunset.
Accessibility is limited: sandy terrain and no adapted infrastructure. We recommend viewpoints near the parking area to enjoy partial views without needing to walk on the beach.
In Mariato: Playa del Muerto (surfing), Fortuna Forest Reserve, and Cerro Hoya National Park. About 1 hour away: Santa Catalina (diving) and Coiba National Park. See options at: Attractions in Veraguas.
1) Bring sunscreen and drinking water. 2) Wear footwear suitable for walking on coral. 3) If you see turtles, keep your distance and do not use flash. 4) Bring cash for local purchases. 5) Use a high-clearance vehicle during the rainy season. 6) Check the weather forecast: HIDROMET Forecast.
