A religious and cultural monument that tells centuries of history and resilience in Los Santos Village.
The church is usually open Monday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., although it is advisable to confirm locally as hours may vary. It is located in the center of Tonosí and can be reached by private vehicle or taxi from Las Tablas; parking is limited near the main square.
Admission is free, as it is a parish church open to the public. Voluntary donations are accepted for its upkeep.
It is recommended to allow between 30 and 45 minutes to explore the interior, the main altar, and the architectural details without rushing. If you include photos and quiet reflection, the visit could last up to an hour.
Built in the 18th century in Colonial Baroque style, it is one of the oldest churches in Los Santos and a symbol of Spanish evangelization in Panama. It stands out for its carved wooden altarpieces and its role in local patron saint festivities.
The best time is during the dry season, from December to April, because of the favorable weather, preferably in the morning to avoid the heat and enjoy better natural light inside. Avoid festive weekends if you are looking for a quieter visit.
Access is limited due to steps at the main entrance and uneven stone floors; there is no ramp or elevator. It is suggested to contact the local parish for assistance or visit during less crowded hours.
Nearby you will find Tonosí Beach, a 10-minute drive away and ideal for relaxing, as well as Cerro Hoya National Park for hiking and nature. You can also explore the town of Tonosí with its handicrafts and the Cross Viewpoint.
Bring insect repellent, water, and comfortable shoes; respect the silence and do not use flash for photos. For an enriched experience, download an audio guide at IAudioguia and find more information at Visit Panama.
