Playa Restinga, en la Isla Taboga de Panamá, destaca por su arena negra volcánica, aguas tranquilas y manglares exuberantes, un rincón perfecto para conectar con la naturaleza caribeña.
Restinga Beach is open to the public all day, generally from sunrise to sunset. To get to Taboga Island, you need to take a ferry from Panama City. Several companies offer this service, such as Taboga Express or Ferry Taboga, with frequent departure times.
Access to Restinga Beach is free. However, you will need to buy a ferry ticket to travel to and from Taboga Island. Prices vary depending on the company and the type of ticket (round trip), usually ranging from $15 to $25 USD per person.
To fully enjoy Restinga Beach and its surroundings, we recommend setting aside at least half a day. This will allow you to relax on the beach, swim, explore the town of Taboga, and perhaps enjoy a meal. If you want to go hiking, a full day would be ideal.
Absolutely! Taboga Island, also known as the 'Island of Flowers,' has a rich history. It was a lookout point for pirates and explorers, and even the painter Paul Gauguin lived here for a time. Restinga Beach is famous for its sandbar that appears and disappears with the tide, a fascinating natural phenomenon.
The best time to visit Restinga Beach and Taboga Island is during Panama's dry season (December to April), when the weather is sunny and there is less chance of rain. To avoid crowds, we suggest going on weekdays and early in the morning, just as the first ferries arrive on the island.
Accessibility at Restinga Beach and on Taboga Island is limited. Access to the beach is over sand and can be difficult for wheelchairs. Most of the town's streets are steep and cobbled. We recommend contacting the ferry companies in advance to ask about boarding and disembarkation assistance.
On Taboga Island, there is plenty to explore. You can visit the Church of Saint Peter the Apostle, one of the oldest in the hemisphere, climb Cross Hill for panoramic views, or explore the small and picturesque town with its colorful houses. There are also some nature trails and other smaller beaches to discover.
For the best experience, we recommend bringing biodegradable sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water. Be sure to check the ferry return times so you do not miss the last one. Do not forget your camera to capture the incredible Restinga phenomenon. And of course, get ready to relax and enjoy the natural beauty!
