A coastal paradise in Chiriquí, Panama, famous for its long sandy beaches and vibrant ecosystem.
As a public beach, access is open 24 hours a day, year-round. It is located about 75 km east of David; take the Pan-American Highway and turn at the San Félix junction toward the coast for about 15 minutes.
Access to the beach is completely free for all visitors. However, if you want to use the ranchos (traditional huts), hammocks, or services at the beachfront hotels, you will need to pay a rental fee or meet a minimum spend.
We recommend spending at least a full day to enjoy the changing tides and spectacular sunsets. It is the ideal place to unwind, so a relaxed weekend in one of the local accommodations is the perfect option.
It is known as one of the longest beaches in Central America, with more than 20 kilometers of continuous volcanic sand. It is an icon of tourism in Chiriquí Province, famous for its vastness, which makes it feel as though you have the beach all to yourself.
The dry season, from December to April, guarantees bright sunshine, although the beach is beautiful year-round. The best time of day is at low tide, when the sand becomes so compact that it is perfect for walking, running, or even cycling.
Although it is a rustic beach without concrete walkways on the sand, the surface becomes very firm and flat during low tide, making movement easier. Most beachfront restaurants and hotels have ground-level access.
Near the beach, you can explore the mangrove area and the lagoon, which are excellent for observing local birds. You can also visit the town of San Félix to experience local life and stock up before heading down to the coast.
Be cautious of Pacific currents when swimming and never lose sight of children. Bring enough cash, since card signals may fail, and high-SPF sun protection, as there is little natural shade right on the shore.
