El Puente de las Américas es una icónica estructura de acero que cruza la entrada pacífica del Canal de Panamá, uniendo las riberas y ofreciendo vistas espectaculares del tráfico marítimo y el horizonte oceánico.
The Bridge of the Americas is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the week. The best way to get there is by car or taxi from Panama City (about 15–20 minutes). There is no direct pedestrian access to the bridge, but there are nearby viewing areas. For more transport details, visit Visit Panama.
It is completely free! No toll is required to cross the bridge by car or to enjoy the views from nearby areas. Just keep in mind that nearby parking lots may charge small fees.
A basic visit takes 15–30 minutes, enough time to cross the bridge or take photos from the viewpoints. If you plan to combine the visit with nearby attractions such as the Miraflores Visitor Center, allow half a day.
Built in 1962, it was the first permanent bridge to unite the Americas across the Panama Canal. Its name pays tribute to continental connection, and it remains vital for transportation today. It was crucial before the construction of the Centennial Bridge.
The dry season (December to April) offers clear skies for photos. The best time of day is early in the morning (6:00–8:00 am) to avoid intense heat and afternoon haze. Sunsets are also spectacular from the viewpoints.
The bridge itself is only accessible by vehicle, but the main viewpoints, such as the one at the Miraflores Visitor Center, have ramps and adapted spaces. Check specific accessibility information at: Miraflores.
Highlights include the Miraflores Visitor Center (8 km), where you can watch ships passing through the locks, the Amador Causeway (10 km, with skyline views), and the Biomuseo (15 km). All can be reached within 20 minutes by car.
Use sunscreen and wear a hat, as there is little shade, bring water, and do not forget your camera. Park only in authorized areas. For the best panoramic photos, use the viewpoints on the Pacific side near the Miraflores Locks.
