A colonial church that rises like a beacon of history and devotion in the heart of Granada.
The church is open Monday to Sunday, generally from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (hours may change on holidays). We recommend confirming on site before visiting. You will find more practical details at: Granada Tourism
Entry to the church is free. You only pay a small symbolic fee (approximately $2 USD) if you wish to climb the bell tower to enjoy panoramic views of Granada.
A visit to the interior of the church takes about 20–30 minutes. If you climb the bell tower and enjoy the views, allow between 45 minutes and 1 hour in total.
Originally built in the 16th century and rebuilt in the 18th century, it is one of the few buildings that survived the burning of Granada ordered by William Walker in 1856. Its Baroque style and imposing bell tower make it a symbol of historical resilience.
The early morning hours (8:00–10:00 a.m.) or late afternoon (4:00–5:00 p.m.) are ideal to avoid the intense heat and crowds. The sunset light from the bell tower is especially photogenic.
Access to the church’s main level is possible, but the bell tower has steep, narrow stairs and no elevator. We recommend asking on site about specific needs.
Less than a 5-minute walk away you will find: Granada Cathedral (2 blocks away), Central Park, and San Francisco Convent (now a museum). Discover more here: Nearby attractions
Wear modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered), bring water, wear comfortable shoes for climbing the bell tower, and do not forget your camera. Local coins are useful for small donations.
