¿Sabías que esta iglesia ha visto más terremotos que misas canceladas y aún sigue en pie, como un nicaragüense terco?
The church is open Monday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It is located in the historic center of Liberty, within walking distance of the central park. If you are coming from León, the journey is about 50 km via the road to Chinandega. For the exact location: View on Google Maps
No, admission is free. However, voluntary donations are accepted for the maintenance of the church. If you would like to contribute, donation boxes are available near the altar.
We recommend allowing between 30 and 60 minutes to fully appreciate its architecture, altarpieces, and religious iconography. If you plan to attend Mass or take detailed photographs, add another 30 minutes.
It is one of the oldest colonial churches in western Nicaragua (18th century). Its name commemorates the abolition of slavery in Central America, and it was a key witness during regional independence. Its Baroque façade is Municipal Cultural Heritage.
The dry season (December-April) is ideal because of the clear weather. Weekdays have fewer visitors. Avoid Mass times (6:00 AM and 5:00 PM) if you are looking for a quiet visit for photography.
It has partial access: the central nave is accessible, but the presbytery has 3 steps and no ramp. The restrooms are not adapted. Assistance is recommended for visitors with reduced mobility in the side areas.
Five minutes away is the Museum of Local Traditions (hours here), the Central Park with its century-old ceiba tree, and 15 km away are the San Jacinto hot springs. Combined tours are organized from León.
Wear modest clothing (men: no shorts; women: shoulders covered), stay well hydrated in the warm climate, and if you visit during worship hours, keep quiet. The best light for photos is from 9:00 to 11:00 AM because of the building's orientation.
