La Iglesia Antigua de Veenendaal es un emblema histórico de los Países Bajos, con orígenes medievales que la convierten en el edificio más antiguo de la localidad, testigo de siglos de fe y comunidad.
The Old Church is generally open on Fridays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. For visits outside these hours, you can contact +31 (0)318 741 846 or check its official website. The main entrance is located at Markt 6.
Admission is free, but voluntary donations for the maintenance of this historic monument in the heart of Veenendaal are appreciated (€2–€5 per person is typical).
A full visit takes approximately 45 minutes. This includes time to appreciate the 15th-century Gothic architecture, the historic 1841 organ, and the temporary exhibitions it often hosts.
Built in 1539, it is the oldest building in Veenendaal and a symbol of the region’s religious transformation. It is noted for its leaning tower, linked to devotion to Saint Francis, and for surviving multiple religious conflicts that shaped Dutch history.
Spring (April–June) is ideal because of the pleasant weather and lower tourist numbers. Saturday mornings are perfect to combine with the weekly market in the adjacent square. Avoid Sundays due to worship services.
There is step-free access from Markt Street, but the interior has historic level differences. There is an accessible restroom. For specific details, contact +31 (0)318 741 846 before your visit.
Within a 5-minute walk you will find: Museum 't Oude Station (local history), De Fontein (an iconic sculpture), and Prince Bernhard Park with its lake. We also recommend the Windhond Mill (official website) 800 meters away.
1) Wear comfortable shoes because of the uneven floor 2) Check the schedule for organ concerts, which are unique in the Netherlands 3) Visit the adjoining Café De Kosterij to try Dutch cake 4) Photograph the leaning tower from Oude Kerkstraat for the best perspective.
