Un paseo sereno por los canales pintorescos de Volendam, pueblo pesquero holandés que conserva su esencia tradicional con casas de madera y un ambiente marítimo único.
The canal walk is accessible all day, as it is a public outdoor area. The IAudioguia audio guide is available 24 hours a day after download. No reservation is required for the walk itself. For more details about the village: Holland Tourist Office.
Walking along the canals is completely free. If you choose the IAudioguia audio guide to learn about its history, it costs €4.99 (unlimited download). You can purchase it here: www.iaudioguia.com.
The full walking tour, enjoying the canals and the typical architecture, takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. If you use the audio guide and stop to take photos, allow up to 2 hours.
The canals of Volendam reflect its fishing past dating back to the 14th century. Its green wooden houses and the dike are symbols of traditional Dutch culture. They were vital for transporting goods such as herring.
We recommend spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October) for good weather and fewer crowds. Early in the morning or at sunset you will have the best light for photos.
The paths are mostly flat, but some sections have cobblestones that may be uncomfortable for wheelchairs. The harbor area is more accessible. Check adapted routes at: Accessible Travel NL.
Five minutes away is the Volendam Museum (volendamsmuseum.nl) and the iconic dike with fresh fish shops. Ten kilometers away: Edam, famous for its cheese, and Marken, a lakeside village.
Wear comfortable shoes (the ground is uneven), bring a jacket against the sea wind, and download the audio guide in advance. Don’t miss the hidden courtyards near the De Lange Weer canal. Try kibbeling (fried fish) at the local stalls!
