Descubre cómo este barco cambió el mapa del mundo... y la tragedia que esconden sus maderas.
The Half Moon is open from January to June, Tuesday to Friday (11:00-17:00), and from July to August, Tuesday to Sunday (11:00-17:00). You’ll find it moored in the port of Hoorn, within walking distance of the town center. More details are available on its official website.
Adults pay €5 and children (ages 4-12) €3. Entry is free with the Museum Card. Check group discounts on the museum website.
We recommend 45-60 minutes to properly explore the ship replica, although you can stay longer if you read all the historical information available on board.
This VOC ship (Dutch East India Company) sailed in 1617 toward Indonesia. It played a key role in the spice trade and in establishing Dutch maritime routes during the Dutch Golden Age.
July to August offers the best weather for enjoying the deck. Weekday mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds. It also works well as a rainy-day visit!
As this is a historical ship replica, it has steep stairs and tight spaces that are not wheelchair accessible. Contact them in advance at +31 229 214 962 for specific assistance.
A 5-minute walk away are: the Westfries Museum (Dutch Golden Age art), the beautiful historic harbor, and Hoorn railway station (with connections to Amsterdam). More ideas can be found at Visit Holland.
Wear comfortable shoes (the deck is wooden), bring a camera for panoramic harbor photos, and ask about guided tours. And don’t touch the original nautical instruments!
