The Keukenhof Windmill is part of the Keukenhof Gardens and is open only during tulip season, from March 21 to May 12, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM. You can get there by special bus from Amsterdam or Leiden, or by car with parking available; check the official website for updated schedules and routes.
Admission to the Keukenhof Windmill is included in the Keukenhof Gardens ticket: €20 for adults, €9 for children aged 4-17, and free for children under 4. Buy tickets online in advance to avoid queues at keukenhof.nl/es/tickets/.
It is recommended to spend at least 30-45 minutes at the windmill itself to climb to the top and enjoy the views, but ideally 2-3 hours if combined with the nearby gardens. The visit is self-guided and depends on your pace.
Built in 1892, this drainage windmill helped control water in the lowlands of Lisse, symbolizing traditional Dutch engineering. Today it is a cultural icon within the famous Keukenhof Gardens, restored for visitors.
The best period is April, during the peak tulip bloom, preferably early in the morning (at opening time) to avoid crowds and enjoy the soft light. Avoid weekends if you want fewer people.
The gardens are accessible with paved paths and wheelchair loans, but the interior of the windmill has steep stairs and is not fully accessible. Contact +31 252 465 485 for special options or check accessibility information.
It is inside the Keukenhof Gardens, with flower pavilions, peacocks, and 7 million bulbs; nearby in Lisse, visit the Museum De Zwarte Tulp or Keukenhof Castle. A 10-15 minute drive away, you will find tulip fields.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, book tickets online, download the Keukenhof app for maps, and go up the windmill early for the best views. Eat at the park cafés and bring insect repellent on sunny days.
