De Walmolen es un molino de viento histórico en Doetinchem, Países Bajos, dedicado a la molienda de grano. Representa la tradición molinera holandesa en un entorno urbano sereno.
De Walmolen is open on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (subject to change). It is advisable to check the latest opening hours on the local tourism website or call +31 314 329 760.
Admission is free, although voluntary donations for maintenance are appreciated. No reservation is required for individual visits.
A typical visit lasts 30 to 45 minutes. If you also include the panoramic area around the windmill, which is part of the old ramparts, add another 20 minutes.
It dates from 1639 and is one of the last surviving rampart windmills in the Netherlands. It was part of Doetinchem's defensive system and was rebuilt in 2007 after being destroyed during World War II.
Spring and autumn are ideal because of the scenery. On Saturday mornings you can avoid the crowds. Avoid rainy or windless days so you can see the sails turning.
Only the ground floor has limited access, with high thresholds. The upper floors require climbing narrow stairs. Detailed information is available on the Dutch windmills website.
A 5-minute walk away: Stadsmuseum Doetinchem and De Wildt Park. About 20 km away: De Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Kröller-Müller Museum. More information at visitarnhem.com.
1) Wear comfortable shoes for walking along the adjacent rampart. 2) If you want to see the mechanism in motion, check in advance whether milling will take place that day. 3) Don’t miss the chance to try artisan bread made with its flour at local bakeries.
