A majestic historic fortress standing as a witness to centuries of history in the Draa Valley.
Kasbah Tifoultoute is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, although it is recommended to confirm during peak season. It is located on the route to Ouarzazate, accessible by car or bus from Marrakesh (about 4 hours); if you go by taxi, the cost is around 200-300 MAD. For more details, visit the official Morocco tourism website at Visit Morocco.
Admission costs around 20 MAD for adults, and it is free for children under 12 years old. You can buy tickets at the ticket office or in combined packages with other nearby kasbahs to save money. Check updated prices at Ouarzazate Tourism.
It is recommended to allow at least 1-2 hours to explore the kasbah on foot, including the towers and inner courtyards. If you want to take photos or enjoy the panoramic views, it could extend to 3 hours. Plan ahead if you are traveling in a group to avoid rushing.
Built in the 17th century as a defensive fortress by the Glaoui family, this kasbah represents traditional Berber architecture and served as a control point on the caravan route. Today it is a symbol of Moroccan cultural heritage and has been a filming location for movies such as 'The Mummy.' Its preservation highlights the historical richness of the Ouarzazate region.
Spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) are ideal because of the mild weather, avoiding the intense summer heat. Visit early in the morning for fewer crowds and better light for photos, or at sunset for stunning views. Avoid midday in summer to stay out of the direct sun.
The kasbah has stone-paved access paths and narrow staircases in the upper sections, which can be challenging for wheelchairs, but the main level is mostly flat and accessible with assistance. We recommend contacting the local guide (phone: +212 524 885 123) to arrange adapted visits. For more information, see Morocco Tourism.
Nearby you will find Taourirt Kasbah (a 20-minute drive away) and the Ouarzazate Film Studios, famous for Hollywood movies. You can also visit the Valley of the Kasbahs on a day trip. Combine visits to make the most of your journey from Ouarzazate.
Bring water, a hat, and comfortable shoes for the uneven ground; hire a local guide (around 50 MAD) for fascinating stories you will not find in guidebooks. Avoid carrying valuables and respect local rules by removing your shoes in indoor areas. For bookings or tours, visit Ouarzazate Tours.
