Immerse yourself in the heart of Africa's Hollywood, where the desert becomes the stage for epic films.
The studios are usually open every day of the year, generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or until 6:30 p.m. in summer, although hours may change if filming is in progress. They are located about 5 km from Ouarzazate on the road to Marrakesh, and access is usually through guided tours organized by the studio itself.
The general admission price is around 80 Moroccan dirhams (approximately €8) per adult and 40 dirhams for children. Tickets are purchased directly at the entrance ticket office, and payment should preferably be made in cash.
The standard guided tour lasts between 45 minutes and one hour, covering the main sets. If you are passionate about film and want to take lots of photographs, we recommend allowing at least 90 minutes to enjoy the experience at a relaxed pace.
It is known as the 'Hollywood of Africa' and is considered the world's largest film studio by area. Iconic scenes from films such as Gladiator, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, and series such as Game of Thrones were filmed here.
The best period is from October to May to avoid the extreme summer heat; as for the time of day, early morning or late afternoon is ideal. The light at those times highlights the texture of the Egyptian and Tibetan sets, making it perfect for photographers.
Accessibility is limited because it is a desert environment with dirt ground, sand, and uneven surfaces between the sets. Although some main areas can be seen, the full tour may be difficult for wheelchairs without strong assistance.
About 30 km away is the impressive Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a World Heritage Site. Closer by, in the center of Ouarzazate, you can visit Taourirt Kasbah and the Cinema Museum, which perfectly complement a visit to the studios.
It is essential to bring water, a hat, and strong sun protection, since most sets are outdoors under the desert sun. Bring small cash for guide tips, and consider complementing your visit with an audio guide to learn more about the history of each production.
