A historic monument in Kasbah Tadla that connects Morocco’s imperial past with its river landscape today.
The bridge is a public outdoor monument, so it is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. It is located in the city of Khenifra, and access is free from the city center.
The visit is completely free, and there is no need to buy any kind of ticket or pass. It is a perfect and affordable stop to enjoy the history and the views of the Oum Er Rbia River.
In general, a visit of 20 to 30 minutes is enough to cross it, admire the architecture, and take photographs. If you decide to relax while watching the river flow, you can stay a little longer.
This historic bridge dates from the Alaouite dynasty period, often attributed to the time of Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, and it was vital for the strategic control of the river crossing. It is an architectural testimony to the military and commercial importance of the Khenifra region.
Spring is ideal because the river carries more water and the surroundings are greener. As for the time of day, sunset offers spectacular golden light for photographs on the ancient stones.
Access can be difficult due to the uneven cobbled paving typical of old constructions. It is recommended to go with a companion, as wheelchairs may have difficulty on the bridge’s original surface.
About 40 km away are the stunning Sources of the Oum Er Rbia River, an unforgettable natural spectacle. You can also visit Khenifra National Park to enjoy the cedar forests.
Wear comfortable, non-slip footwear, as the stones can be slippery when wet. Do not forget your camera and, if you have time, try mint tea in one of the nearby cafés with views of the river.
