Ruta escénica en el valle del Dades, cerca de Boumalne Dadès en Marruecos, famosa por sus kasbahs bereberes que emergen entre valles fértiles y gargantas rocosas.
As it is a public scenic route, it is open 24 hours a day all year round. However, to enjoy the views and visit the inside of the fortresses, we recommend going between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Driving along the road is completely free. However, admission to certain kasbahs or private museums along the way usually has a symbolic cost of between 10 and 20 dirhams (approx. 1-2 euros) per person.
Although you can drive the main stretch in about 2 hours, we suggest allowing at least half a day (4-5 hours). This will let you stop for photos, explore on foot, and listen to the stories of the place at a relaxed pace.
This route was the old passage of trade caravans between the desert and the imperial cities. The kasbahs are adobe citadels built for defense and to display power, representing an architecture that is unique in the world.
Spring (especially April and May, because of the roses) and autumn are ideal thanks to the mild weather. Avoid the height of summer because of the extreme heat, and try to be there at sunset to see the rocks change color.
The driving route offers spectacular views and is accessible, but access to the interior of the old kasbahs is very difficult because of narrow stairways and uneven dirt terrain.
You are in a strategic location near the Valley of Roses and the impressive rock formations known as the 'Monkey Fingers.' In addition, you should not miss the famous Dades Gorges, which are very close by.
Always carry water and some cash in dirhams, since there are not many ATMs along the route. To understand the cultural richness of what you are seeing without relying on expensive local guides, it is ideal to have an audio guide downloaded on your phone.
