A journey through the history and culture of Beni Mellal, exploring its fascinating centuries-old walls.
Access is generally free during the day, although it is recommended to visit between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. For guided visits or updated information, you can contact the Beni Mellal Tourist Office at +212 523 485302.
No, access to the Walls of Beni Mellal is free. However, if you want to include a visit to the nearby Kasbah Ras El Ain, some areas may have symbolic fees (check on site).
We recommend allowing between 45 minutes and 1 hour to explore the walls and take good photographs. Add another half hour if you visit the viewpoint over the Tadla Valley and the Atlas Mountains.
Built in the 17th century during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail, these walls were part of the defensive system of Kasbah Ras El Ain. Their strategic location controlled the trade routes between Marrakesh and northern Morocco.
Ideal at sunrise or before sunset: the light is perfect for photographs and the weather is milder. In summer, avoid the middle of the day (12:00-4:00 p.m.) because of the intense heat.
As this is a historic structure with uneven ground and steps, access is limited. We recommend viewing only the lower section from the esplanade. More details at Morocco Tourism.
Just a few steps away you will find: 1) Kasbah Ras El Ain (17th-century fortress), 2) Ain Asserdoun Spring, 3) Beni Mellal traditional market. For excursions: Ouzoud Falls (90 km) and High Atlas National Park.
Essentials: water, non-slip shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. If you go up to the viewpoint, bring a scarf for the wind. Avoid visiting in flip-flops because of the uneven ground.
