Un vasto paraíso alpino en Montenegro y Albania, con picos escarpados, lagos cristalinos y una biodiversidad única, ideal para explorar la naturaleza indómita de los Balcanes.
Prokletije National Park does not have fixed opening or closing hours, as it is a natural area. You can reach different points in the park by car, but for more remote areas or trails, walking is the best option. From Plav Lake, the best way to get there is by car, following the signs to the main access points, such as Gusinje or Vusanje.
General access to Prokletije National Park is free. There is no specific entrance fee to walk its trails. However, some activities or additional services offered by local operators within the park, such as guides or horseback excursions, do have an associated cost.
To truly enjoy the essence of Prokletije National Park, we recommend spending at least one full day if you want to do a meaningful hiking route. If your plan is to explore several areas or venture onto longer routes, the ideal option is to plan a stay of 2 to 3 days, spending the night in nearby villages.
The Prokletije Mountains, also known as the 'Accursed Mountains,' have deep cultural and historical significance. They have served as a natural border and a stronghold of resistance for centuries, holding stories of shepherds, myths, and local legends. Their name evokes their rugged and challenging nature, but also their unmatched beauty.
The best time to visit Prokletije National Park is between late spring (May) and early autumn (October). During these months, the weather is milder, the trails are clear of snow, and the flora and fauna are at their most spectacular. Summers can be hot, but they are ideal for high-mountain hiking.
Due to its mountainous nature and uneven terrain, Prokletije National Park does not have specific infrastructure for people with reduced mobility on most of its trails. However, some areas with easy car access, such as viewpoints or picnic areas by the lake or near the villages, may be visited more easily.
Near Prokletije National Park and Lake Plav, you can visit the charming village of Gusinje, with its old mosques and traditional houses. You can also explore nearby Biogradska Gora National Park, known for its virgin forest and beautiful Biograd Lake, about two hours away by car.
To make the most of your visit, bring proper mountain footwear, warm layered clothing (even in summer), and plenty of water. Consider hiring a local guide if you plan to do long or poorly marked routes. Do not forget your camera and, please, respect the natural environment by always taking your trash with you and following the park rules. Emergency contact number in Montenegro: 112.
