Donde los muros resucitaron de los escombros y los monjes escondieron secretos entre los racimos de uva
The monastery is usually open to visitors every day, generally from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. It is located about 2 km from the center of Budva, and you can easily get there by taxi or by walking uphill if you are looking for a small adventure; here is the exact location on Google Maps.
Admission to Podostrog Monastery is completely free for all visitors. However, as is customary at Orthodox religious sites, a small voluntary donation is appreciated to help with the upkeep of the place.
The complex is compact and peaceful, so a visit of 30 to 45 minutes is enough to see everything at a relaxed pace. It is the perfect amount of time to explore the two churches, enjoy the frescoes, and admire the panoramic views over the city.
This monastery was an important summer residence for the Petrović-Njegoš dynasty and a spiritual and political center of Montenegro for centuries. Leaders gathered here to make crucial decisions, and its architecture reflects the region’s rich Orthodox heritage.
I recommend visiting in the late afternoon, just before sunset, to avoid the midday heat and enjoy spectacular light over Budva. Spring and autumn are ideal because of the mild weather and fewer tourists.
Because of its age and historic architecture, access is limited for wheelchairs, as there are stone steps and uneven ground. If you have reduced mobility, you may be able to access the main courtyard, but entering the churches may be difficult.
Right next door you will find the famous Aquapark Budva, ideal if you are traveling with family or looking for fun. In addition, after your visit, you are only a few minutes by car from Budva’s beautiful Old Town and its beaches.
Remember that this is an active place of worship, so you should dress respectfully, with shoulders and knees covered, to avoid being denied entry. Bring water with you, especially if you are walking up in summer, and do not forget your camera for the panoramic views of the coast.
