Discover Mazatlán Lighthouse Natural Park in Mazatlán. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
The lighthouse monument is open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day. For your convenience, you can get there by taxi, Uber, or even local public transportation to the start of the trail. From there, it is an easy, well-marked walk. Consider checking the current schedule on the Mazatlán Lighthouse Committee Facebook page.
Good news! Access to the trail and the Mazatlán Lighthouse viewpoint is completely free. However, voluntary donations are accepted to help maintain and improve the park. Every little bit helps preserve this beautiful place!
A typical visit to Mazatlán Lighthouse, including the uphill and downhill walk and some time to enjoy the spectacular views, usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. If you enjoy taking photos or simply admiring the scenery, you may want to stay a little longer.
Mazatlán Lighthouse, built in 1879, is located on Crestón Hill, which used to be an island. It is the tallest natural lighthouse in the world still in operation and has been a crucial navigation landmark for more than a century. It is a historic symbol and an emblem of the city.
The best time to visit the lighthouse is early in the morning, just after opening, or late in the afternoon before closing, to enjoy sunrise or sunset and avoid the most intense heat. As for the time of year, the winter months from November to April offer more pleasant temperatures for the walk.
The trail to the lighthouse is an uphill paved walk and, unfortunately, it is not fully accessible for wheelchair users or people with very limited mobility because of its incline and some stairs near the final section. However, there is an accessible viewpoint near the beginning.
After visiting the lighthouse, you can explore Mazatlán Historic Center, known for its colonial architecture, the Ángela Peralta Theater, and lively Machado Square. Also, Mazatlán Aquarium and the Golden Zone, with its beaches and restaurants, are a short distance away.
Of course! I recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water, especially if you go during the day. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for the walk. Do not forget your camera to capture the stunning views, and be ready for a bit of exercise—the reward is worth it!
