Originally dating back to the 16th century, this house was a former Franciscan convent that was transformed into a center for Purépecha handicrafts, preserving Indigenous traditions in ceramics, textiles, and lacquerwork. It represents the rich cultural heritage of Michoacán and stands as a living testimony to Mexican craftsmanship, recognized by UNESCO for its traditional techniques.

The best time is during the Day of the Dead season (early November) to see vibrant themed handicrafts, or in spring for fewer crowds. Go early in the morning (around 9:00 a.m.) to avoid the heat and enjoy the natural light in the courtyards; weekends may be busier.

Access is partially accessible: the main courtyards are flat, but some workshops and upper levels have uneven stairs, which may be challenging for wheelchairs.
