❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the visiting hours and how can I get to the Sonora Ecological Center?

The Ecological Center is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is located on the road to Cerro de la Campana, no number, Hermosillo, Sonora. You can arrive by private car (parking is available) or by using urban bus route 26. To confirm schedule changes, visit its official website or call (662) 210-5590.

What is the admission price and do they accept card payments?

General admission is 50 pesos for adults. Children under 12, students, and seniors with ID pay 25 pesos. On Sundays, only foreign visitors pay. They accept cash and credit/debit cards. Bring identification if you qualify for discounts!

How much time is needed to explore the entire Ecological Center?

We recommend setting aside at least 2 hours to see the main areas (desert animals, aviary, and cactus gardens). If you plan to have a picnic or visit the interactive areas, allow 3 to 4 hours. The trails are long and there is plenty to discover!

Why is this ecological center important?

It is a landmark for conservation of the Sonoran ecosystem, with endemic species such as the pronghorn and the Mexican wolf. It was founded in 1984 for environmental education and wildlife rescue, making it the only zoo in the region with this scientific focus.

What is the best time of year and time of day to visit?

From October to March (winter to spring) is ideal, with pleasant temperatures below 30°C. In summer, go early (9 am-11 am) when the animals are more active and you can avoid the extreme afternoon heat.

Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility or baby strollers?

About 70% of the route has paved paths and ramps, including the main viewpoints. There are rocky areas with limited access. Free wheelchairs are available at the entrance (subject to availability) with an ID deposit.

What other tourist attractions can I visit near the Ecological Center?

Just 10 minutes away is Cerro de la Campana (panoramic views) and the San Pedro Museum (regional history). We also recommend the UNISON Botanical Garden, a 15-minute drive away.

What tips do you have to make the most of the visit?

Use sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable shoes. There is little shade along the trails. Bring water (personal bottles are allowed) and binoculars for wildlife spotting. Do not feed the animals! Ask at reception about the schedules for talks with biologists (usually at 11 am and 2 pm).
