The island of Cozumel is 'open' 24 hours a day, but parks such as Punta Sur or San Gervasio generally open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Ferries from Playa del Carmen operate from early morning until night; check updated schedules at Ultramar Ferry.

Walking along the waterfront and through downtown is free, but ecological parks and the Mayan ruins have fees that usually range from $10 to $25 USD per person. I recommend bringing cash (Mexican pesos) for smaller entrance fees and local purchases.

To drive all the way around the island, visit an untouched beach, and see an archaeological site, a minimum of 5 to 6 hours is recommended. If you want to snorkel or dive at a relaxed pace, ideally dedicate the whole day.

Cozumel was a sacred Mayan pilgrimage center dedicated to Ixchel, the goddess of the moon and fertility. Visiting it is not just about seeing beaches; it is about stepping onto land of ancient rituals and spiritual healing.

The best season is from November to April to avoid extreme heat and rain. As for the time of day, arrive early (before 10:00 AM) to avoid the cruise crowds that usually fill popular sites around midday.

Downtown San Miguel and the waterfront are very accessible, with ramps and wide sidewalks. However, places such as the ruins or beaches on the east side may have uneven ground, so it is recommended to check specific accessibility details or hire adapted private transport.

Besides exploring downtown, you should not miss Punta Sur Ecological Park and the famous El Cielo reef, accessible by boat. Both are essential stops to complete your Caribbean experience.

Renting a car or a scooter is the best way to have complete freedom to circle the island. Do not forget to use biodegradable sunscreen, and bring an audio guide with you to discover hidden stories you will not see at first glance.
