The church is usually open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., although Mass times may vary. The main entrance is located along the famous Tourist Walkway in downtown Oaxaca.
Access to the interior of the church for worship and पर्यटन visits is completely free. However, if you wish to visit the Museum of Cultures or the adjoining Ethnobotanical Garden, these do charge an entrance fee.
To appreciate the Baroque details and altarpieces of the church, I recommend setting aside about 30 to 45 minutes. If you plan to listen to a full audio guide or visit the adjacent cultural complex, allow at least 2 hours.
It is considered one of the most outstanding examples of New Spanish Baroque in Mexico, famous for its gold leaf decoration and the impressive family tree of Saint Dominic de Guzmán on the vault. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the historic center.
The best time to visit is early in the morning (around 8:00 a.m.) to avoid crowds, or at sunset to see the façade lit by the evening sun. Avoid Mass times if your goal is to take photographs and explore the nave.
The main entrance has ramps, although the outer atrium has a stone surface that may make wheelchair access more difficult. Once inside, the main nave is flat and accessible.
Right next door you will find the spectacular Ethnobotanical Garden and the Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca. In addition, you are just steps from the lively Tourist Walkway filled with galleries, craft shops, and restaurants.
Wear respectful clothing (shoulders covered), use an audio guide to understand the symbolism of the ceiling, and do not forget to visit the Chapel of the Rosary. Remember to keep quiet, as this is an active place of worship.
