A natural and historic paradise off the coast of Acapulco, home to legends, marine life, and an iconic lighthouse.
The island is accessible all day, but boats depart from Roqueta Beach approximately from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., every 15–30 minutes. The trip takes about 5 minutes and costs around 150–200 MXN round trip per person; buy tickets at the pier. For more details, visit the official Acapulco tourism website at Acapulco Tourism.
Admission to the island is free; you only pay for the boat ride (150–200 MXN round trip per adult, half price for children). There are no additional fees for the beach or basic snorkeling, but you can rent equipment if needed for about 100 MXN extra.
Plan for 3–4 hours to enjoy it fully: 30 minutes for the boat ride and time for snorkeling, the beach, and exploring. If you are only going to the beach, 2 hours may be enough, but stay longer if you plan to dive.
The island is famous for its coral reef and the underwater statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, placed in 1958 at a depth of 10 meters as an offering by fishermen. It also has 18th-century pirate history and is a key diving site in Acapulco, attracting thousands of tourists each year.
The best time is from November to April, during the dry season, to avoid rain and hurricanes; go early in the morning (8–11 a.m.) for calm waters, fewer crowds, and better snorkeling visibility. Avoid weekends if you are looking for peace and quiet.
Access is challenging: it requires boarding small boats and walking on sand or rocks on the island, with no ramps or adapted facilities. If you have reduced mobility, ask boat operators about priority options, but it is not ideal; nearby mainland beaches may be a better choice.
Nearby attractions include Roqueta Beach, the departure pier, Pie de la Cuesta with its beach and river, and San Diego Fort, about 15 minutes away by car. You can also visit La Quebrada for its high-cliff diving shows. Explore more at Guerrero Tourism.
Bring sunscreen, water, snorkeling gear (or rent it there), cash in MXN, and water shoes for the rocks. Go with a guide if you are a beginner diver and check the weather forecast; return before 5:00 p.m. for the last boat. Enjoy the reef responsibly!
