El Badi Palace is usually open every day, although hours may vary slightly depending on the season. It is generally open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You can get there on foot from the Medina or by taxi to one of the nearest vehicle entrances.
Admission to El Badi Palace has a modest fee to help cover maintenance, usually around 70 Moroccan dirhams. Reduced prices are normally available for students with valid ID and, at times, for groups.
To explore El Badi Palace at a relaxed pace, admire its courtyards, the remains of its structures, and go up to the terraces, I would recommend setting aside between 1.5 and 2 hours. If you stop to read all the information panels or take lots of photos, it could take a bit longer.
El Badi Palace was one of the most sumptuous and grand architectural works built by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur at the end of the 16th century to commemorate victory over the Portuguese. Although it is in ruins today, its scale and the luxurious materials that once adorned it, such as gold and Carrara marble, convey the Saadian dynasty’s opulence and its historical importance as a center of power.
The best time to visit El Badi Palace is early in the morning, just after opening, or late in the afternoon, before closing, to enjoy softer light and fewer people. As for the time of year, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer more pleasant temperatures and moderate crowds.
Given the ancient nature of the ruins and the lack of modern ramps and elevators, wheelchair accessibility is limited. Many areas consist of dirt surfaces or uneven steps. It is advisable to ask at the entrance or look for specific information if mobility is an important factor.
Very close to El Badi Palace are the Saadian Tombs, an impressive funerary complex. You are also just a short walk from the souks and the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, as well as Bahia Palace, another beautiful Moroccan palace.
I recommend bringing a hat and sunscreen, especially in summer, as there is very little shade. Consider renting an audio guide or hiring a local guide to better understand the site's history. Also, do not forget to explore the underground dungeons and climb up to the terrace for panoramic views.
