¿Sabías que esta cascada de tres saltos en Chichibu esconde un poder espiritual que ha atraído peregrinos durante siglos, con un hielo invernal que desafía a los escaladores más valientes?
Marugami Falls is open 24 hours a day year-round, as it is a natural outdoor attraction. To get there, take the Seibu Chichibu Line train to Chichibu Station, then a local bus or taxi to the Marugami area (about 20–30 minutes); check the official Chichibu tourism website for updated transport schedules.
Admission to Marugami Falls is completely free. You will only pay for transportation and possibly parking if you go by private car.
It is recommended to allow between 1 and 2 hours to enjoy the waterfall, including the short access trail and time for photos. If you combine it with a picnic, it could stretch into half a morning.
Marugami Falls is a sacred natural site in Chichibu, linked to ancient local legends and Shinto practices, where purification rituals were performed. It is part of the mountain landscape that has inspired the region’s spirituality since the Edo period.
Autumn (October–November) is ideal for the vibrant red foliage, while spring offers nearby cherry blossoms. Avoid midday in summer because of the heat; early morning is perfect for fewer people and better light.
The main access involves a steep trail with stairs and uneven ground, so it is not recommended for wheelchairs or visitors with reduced mobility. There is an initial accessible viewpoint, but check with local guides for adapted options.
Nearby you will find Chichibu Shrine (20 minutes by bus), the Hitobashira Caves, and Mitsumine Nature Park. Do not miss the Chichibu Night Festival in December if your visit coincides with it.
Bring non-slip footwear, water, and insect repellent, especially in summer. Download an offline map and check the weather, as sudden rain can occur; respect nature by leaving no litter behind.
