¿Sabías que cada verano esta playa se convierte en un parto masivo de tortugas gigantes que viajan miles de kilómetros solo para llegar aquí?
The beach is open 24 hours a day all year round, as it is a natural public space. Take the ferry from Miyajimaguchi (10 minutes), then bus number 7 or a taxi to the west side of the island (15–20 minutes); check schedules on the Official Miyajima Website.
Access to the beach is completely free, with no entrance fee. You will only pay for the ferry to Miyajima (around 400 yen round trip) and local transportation if you use it.
An ideal visit lasts between 1 and 2 hours, enough time to walk on the sand, enjoy the views, and take photos. You can stay longer if you combine it with a picnic or a swim in summer.
This beach is famous for its unique sand made of crushed seashells, known as a 'shell beach,' and it has been a leisure spot since the Edo period. It offers stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and Mount Misen, and it is part of Miyajima’s UNESCO heritage setting.
Summer (July–August) is ideal for swimming and beach time, but it can be crowded; spring or autumn offer spectacular views with fewer people. Go early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the golden light at sunset.
The main access has a paved path, but the beach itself is loose sand, which makes wheelchair use difficult. There are no specific accessibility facilities, so assistance or guided visits are recommended; check details on Visit Hiroshima.
Just 3 km away is the iconic Itsukushima Shrine with its floating torii gate, and you can go up Mount Misen by ropeway for panoramic views. Also visit Daisho-in, a nearby Buddhist temple, all reachable by bus or on foot.
Bring comfortable shoes for walking on sand, sunscreen, water, and snacks, as there are not many facilities. Check the tide for the best photos and coordinate it with your return ferry; download the map from Miyajima Access to plan ahead.
