Senjokaku is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM), although hours may vary by season; check the official website. Take the ferry from Miyajimaguchi (10 minutes), then walk 20–30 minutes up the steps to the hall. More information at the official Miyajima website.
Admission is 100 yen for adults; children under 12 enter free. It includes access to the main hall. Check updated prices at the Miyajima Visitor Guide.
A typical visit lasts 20–30 minutes to explore the hall and enjoy the panoramic views. If you combine it with nearby sights, allow about 1 hour total. It is compact and ideal for a quick stop on your Miyajima route.
Built in 1587 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi as a giant hall large enough for one thousand tatami mats, it was never completed and today houses Buddhist treasures and views over Itsukushima Shrine. It represents the grandeur of the Sengoku period and is an important cultural treasure. Learn more at Japan Guide.
Autumn (November) is ideal for its vibrant red foliage; avoid weekends in peak season. Go early in the morning for fewer crowds and better photos with the sea at high tide. Sunset offers magical views of the shrine.
Access requires climbing about 300 steep steps from the ferry area, so it is not wheelchair accessible and is difficult for visitors with reduced mobility. Check alternatives with the visitor center. Contact +81-829-44-2022 for information.
Nearby you will find Itsukushima Shrine (a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its floating torii), the ropeway to Mount Misen, and Daisho-in Temple. In the village below, you can enjoy grilled oysters and shops, all within walking distance. Full route on the official map.
Wear comfortable shoes for the steps, and bring water and sunscreen; respect the hall rules by removing your shoes. Visit at high tide for epic views of the torii from above.
