The garden is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM), closed on Mondays and from December 29 to January 3. It is easily reached from JR Sannomiya Station, with a 15–20 minute walk toward Kitano-cho, or by tourist bus. Check the official website for updates.

The fee is 300 yen for adults, 150 yen for students, and 50 yen for children over 6 years old; it is free for children under 6. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter or combined with a pass for the nearby Western-style houses to save money.

A typical visit lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour, enough time to explore the gardens, the pond, and the historic structures. If you prefer a slower pace or visit during flower season, allow 1.5 hours to enjoy it fully.

Created in 1881 as the private garden of the Kodera family, prosperous sake merchants, it was opened to the public in 1941 and is a perfect example of a Meiji-period Japanese garden with Western influences. It represents Kobe’s cultural fusion as an international port.

Spring (March–April) for cherry blossoms and autumn (November) for red foliage are ideal; avoid midday in summer because of the heat. Go early in the morning for fewer crowds and better light for photos.

The garden is mostly accessible, with paved paths and ramps in the main areas, but there are some sections with stairs and uneven ground. A lightweight wheelchair is recommended; contact the official phone line (078-221-5048) for assistance.

It is in the heart of Kitano Ijinkan-gai, with historic Western-style houses such as Uroko House just 5 minutes away. Nearby you will also find the Nunobiki Herb Garden and the ropeway up Mount Rokko.

Wear comfortable walking shoes for the paths, bring water in summer, and a camera for photos of the pond and bridges; food is not allowed inside. Buy a combined pass for the Western-style houses and visit on weekdays to avoid crowds.
