¿Sabías que un cardenal español armado hasta los dientes conquistó esta colina y enfureció a todo Urbino? Escucha los escándalos que aún susurran sus muros.
Albornoz Fortress is open year-round, 24 hours a day as a public park, although it is recommended to visit during daylight hours for safety. It can be reached on foot from Urbino's historic center in about 15 minutes; the nearest parking is on Viale Bruno Buozzi. More info on the official Urbino tourism website.
Admission is completely free, as it is a public park with walls and panoramic views. There are no fees or reservations required, just enjoy open access.
It is recommended to allow 1 to 2 hours to walk along the walls, explore the park, and enjoy the views. If you take your time and stop for photos, it could take a little longer.
Built between 1366 and 1414 by order of Cardinal Egidio Albornoz to defend Urbino, it played a key role in Renaissance history under the Montefeltro family. Today it is a symbol of the UNESCO-listed city and offers stunning views over the valley.
Sunset is ideal for magical evening views over Urbino, especially in spring or autumn to avoid the heat. Avoid midday in summer because of the strong sun.
Access to the park is mostly accessible with paved paths, but the walls have steep stairs. For questions, contact the town hall at +39 0722 2613 or check the tourism website.
Just a 15-minute walk away is the Ducal Palace with its National Gallery of the Marche, Urbino Cathedral, and Raphael's House. Combine your visit with a walk through the historic center.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking on the walls, bring water in summer, and a camera for the views. Download an audio guide from IAudioguia to enrich the experience with local stories.
